In the Great Lake State, T Burgers and Candela’s Cannolis and More are a couple of food trucks that serve burgers and desserts, providing a tasty sweet and savory hybrid.
The owner and operator of these food trucks is Maria Church, 62, a skilled cook who was born and raised in Otter Lake. Church is also the mastermind behind the recipe for Candela’s cannolis, which she inherited from her Sicilian grandmother.
She is also the proud owner of eight ducks who do her work for her with eight eggs every day, which she uses for her baked goods. Cannolis, lemon cakes, and cinnamon nuts are the most popular desserts.
In addition to desserts, burgers are the specialty. Church refers to the hamburgers as “smashed burgers” since they are created from a sirloin, short rib, and brisket combo.
Church’s smashed burgers also come in two delicious choices: standard and deluxe:
The original is served with cheese, onions that have been sautéed, and a unique “secret” sauce.
The Deluxe option comes with mayo, mustard, ketchup, cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickle, and onion.
Homemade potatoes are used to make the buns. The burgers include fresh-cut fries. Burgers are $10.
At 9531 N. State Road, Suite 101, Candela’s Cannolis and More, T Burgers, and other businesses are open on Wednesday and Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday from 2 to 7 p.m., and on Saturday from 10 to 7 p.m.
