Anthony Feig, the Michigan Democrat candidate for State House Representative in District 92, got a surprise endorsement last week from a feline friend in a campaign video that has since gone viral.

Feig uploaded the two-minute-and-a-half clip to YouTube on “Caturday” earlier this month, to rapturous support on social media, including a retweet from Attorney General Dana Nessel that led to a polite exchange.

“I don’t personally know Anthony, and yet, it feels like having him in Lansing might be the best thing that’s ever happened to me,” Nessel tweeted, to which Feig replied with “The Cat and I thank you!”

“Well, I thank you, but The Cat is asleep,” Feig continued, with no explanation as to why he refers to his pet as “The Cat.”

The viral video has Feig “conversing” with a British shorthair feline in a so-bad-it’s-good case of ventriloquism, as the cat offers sound bites as to why Feig is the right candidate.

“Anyway, cats and a sizable majority of people like what you stand for and we think you’re a decent guy,” The Cat said.

But that doesn’t mean The Cat is going easy on Feig. “Cats would like you to take a stronger position on cleaning our litter boxes. Meow.”

The conversation then goes on to talk about how voters can volunteer and contribute to his campaign.

Feig, a 53-year-old professor at Central Michigan University, has added a light touch to Michigan’s tense political climate. Feig is the sole Democrat candidate for House District 92 and will face off against the winner of a five-person Republican primary vying for seats in the same district.
